Elder James H. Corder

ALICEVILLE | Elder James H. Corder, age 88, died December 5, 2003, at Salem Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, Reform, Ala. Services will be held Friday, December 12, 2003 at 12 Noon at Old Bethany Primitive Baptist Church, Hwy 14 and Vienna Road, Aliceville. Rev. Dr. George D. Horton officiating. Burial will follow in Old Bethany Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Lavender Funeral Service directing. Survivors include 5 daughters, 6 sons, 32 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Rev. Corder leaves a legacy of distinguished accomplishments and contributions among them are First Black Commissioner of Pickens County, Alabama, conducted the First Civil Rights March in Pickens County which enabled the employment of many Blacks. Rev. Corder was a fighter for the elderly, the poor and the down trodden. Rev. Corder also received many awards and recognition such as the SCLC Dreamers Award in 1989, Citizen of the Year Award in 1987 and the recipient of many accolades and accomplishments.
